Privacy Policy

Effective October 7, 2026

This policy explains what Teaspoon Software LLC ("Teaspoon", "we", "us") collects, why, and what your choices are. It covers the teaspoon.app website and the Teaspoon app (together, the "Services"). The short version: we collect what we need to run Teaspoon, we do not sell your information, and we do not show ads.

Information you give us

Waitlist. If you join the waitlist on our website, we store the email address you give us and the time you signed up.

Account. When you create a Teaspoon account, we store your email address and basic account details needed to sign you in.

Your content. Teaspoon is built around content you choose to save: links you share to the app, recipes imported from those links, photos you take of cookbook pages, your edits to recipes, your cooking sessions, grocery lists, and collections. We store all of this so the app can work for you.

Messages. If you email us, we keep the correspondence so we can help you.

Information collected automatically

In the app. We collect device information (such as model and OS version), app version, and product analytics events (such as which features are used) through our analytics provider, and crash reports through our crash-reporting provider, so we can fix problems and improve Teaspoon. If you enable notifications, we store a push token for your device.

On the website. The website itself runs no analytics, no advertising trackers, and no social pixels, and it sets no cookies. Our hosting and database providers keep standard technical logs, such as IP addresses, to run and secure the service.

Content from the links you save

When you save a link, our servers fetch the publicly available content at that link, such as the page, the post caption, its comments, images, or the audio of a video, in order to find and structure the recipe for you. This content comes from the source you chose, stays attributed to its creator, and is stored in your library for your personal use.

How we use AI

Teaspoon uses third-party AI providers to read the content you save and turn it into structured recipes, to watch and transcribe recipe videos, to read recipe photos, to estimate nutrition, and to power cook-mode help. They receive the recipe's own content, never your name, your account or your library. Anthropic, Google and OpenAI process it only to deliver the feature and, under their business terms, do not use it to train their models. DeepSeek, which reads recipe text, has not published terms for data sent through its API, so we cannot say what it keeps; we send it recipe text only.

How we use your information

To provide the Services: importing and structuring your recipes, keeping your library in sync, and running cook mode and grocery lists. To manage subscriptions and accounts. To send you service email, and waitlist or launch updates. To understand how Teaspoon is used, fix bugs, and improve it. To keep the Services secure and to comply with law.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for advertising. We share information with the service providers that run parts of Teaspoon for us, under contracts that limit what they can do with it. They fall into these categories:

Hosting, database, and file storage; website hosting; AI processing (reading recipes, transcribing audio, estimating nutrition, and in-app assistance); fetching the public content at links you save, and searching the web to locate original recipes; subscription management; product analytics and crash reporting; sending email and push notifications; and public food databases we look up nutrition against.

We can provide the current list of these providers on request.

Apple processes payment and App Store account information under its own privacy policy. Other third-party websites and services you choose to visit or use also have their own privacy practices.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of the business, in which case this policy would continue to apply to it.

Payment information

Subscriptions are billed by Apple through your App Store account. We never see or store your card number.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information and saved content while your account is active, unless you delete particular content sooner. Waitlist emails are kept until you ask to be removed or until we retire the waitlist. Technical and security logs are kept for short periods, typically no more than 30 days. Crash reports are kept for up to 90 days.

We may retain limited records where reasonably necessary to meet legal obligations, prevent fraud, resolve disputes, or establish or defend legal claims. We restrict access to those records and retain them only for those purposes.

Deleting your data

You can delete your account and all of its content from inside the app in Settings, or by emailing hello@teaspoon.app. Deleting in the app removes your account, your saved content, and your photos from our production database and storage. If you ask by email, we ordinarily complete that deletion within 30 days, and we may need to verify your identity first.

Deleting your account also initiates deletion of personal information associated with your account in our analytics and crash-reporting services. We ordinarily complete this additional deletion within 30 days and confirm when your deletion request is complete. You do not need to submit a separate request. Limited records may be retained where required by law, as described above.

Routine database backups may retain copies for up to 7 days before they expire. Backups are not used to provide the Services except when needed for recovery, and if we restore from a backup we re-apply deletions that happened after that backup was taken.

Deleting your Teaspoon account does not automatically cancel an Apple subscription. You can manage or cancel that subscription in your Apple account settings.

Your rights

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or ask for a copy of it, by emailing hello@teaspoon.app. We will verify your request and respond within the time required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights protected by applicable law.

We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under the privacy laws that apply to you, and we will honor requests as those laws require.

Marketing choices

Waitlist and launch emails are sent only to addresses submitted through our waitlist or otherwise provided to us with permission. You can opt out of marketing email at any time using the unsubscribe link in the email or by emailing hello@teaspoon.app, and we will honor it promptly. We may still send service messages about your account. You can turn off push notifications in your device settings.

Security

Your data is stored with reputable providers, encrypted in transit, with access limited to what is needed to run the Services. No system is perfectly secure, but we take care with yours.

Children

The Services are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it. The current app beta is limited to adults aged 18 or older.

Where processing happens

We are based in the United States and primarily process information there. Some of our service providers may process information in other countries as part of providing their services.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will post the new version here with a new effective date, and for meaningful changes we will let you know in the app or by email.
